Each Body Arcana ritual performance offers me a wealth of insight, both personally and collectively and Sunday’s Body Arcana Ritual Performance was no different.
Sunday was my first public Body Arcana sharing in 2020 & it was the first time I have ever performed it with a face covering of any kind. As I put my mask on just before the performance began, my body contracted and a surge of resistance ran through me.
I am aware of the current climate we have all been living in for the past 7 months and though I follow all the guidance we have been given in order to stop the spread of covid-19 and though I would never do anything to put anyone at risk, wearing a mask is still foreign to me.
7 months in & it still feels like a barrier to expression, connection, communication and the free organic flow of breath.
I realised that this resistance appeared because my breath is my anchor. It is my navigation tool. It enables me to release and its free flow connects me to the wisdom that lies within my body, especially within each ritual performance. When I noticed my discomfort and resistance before the performance began, I simply dropped deeper into my breath to ground me within.
This moment reminded me of the mantra that has guided me through the past 7 months:
“When we can’t go out, we go deeper within.”
This performance was a gift.
It reminded me that the nothing can silence the wisdom within and that as humans we communicate in many ways beyond those that are most familiar to us. We communicate in silence through the things we feel and this what makes art so powerful.
Art, healing and connection can never be silenced or stopped.
Art will always connect us to one another.
The breath will always guide us to the truth.
The body will always reveal wisdom & will always empower our transformation.
Movement meditation will always bring clarity.
The divine always speaks.
