BLECCA-LEA:

HOME OF LESLEY ASARE

Commissioned Installation & Workshops

09/11/23 - 02/12/23

Brunel Centre, Bletchley, Milton Keynes

What is rest?

How do you rest?

How does your body, mind and spirit feel before and after rest?

How did your ancestors rest?

What practices can support us to rest?

What plants can support our nervous systems and hearts to heal?

For 5 weeks in the winter of 2023, this project invited visitors to slow down, reconnect with the earth through calming and nourishing herbal teas and honeys as we explore the meaning of rest in times of transition.

As a community we explored what 'Home' can feel like when it is understood as something within us rather than part of the material world. Through an installation, creative invitations and workshops, the community of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford were encouraged to consider how to remain rooted in the body and our community when faced with changes that are beyond our control. With a focus on practices of rest; contemporary and historic, the project explored how different stages of rest present us with opportunities to know ourselves and understand ourselves better.
